Research

Today we worked in groups to prepare a presentation. My group researched local companies Different, Drummond Central, Jump, Solution Group and Keltie Cochrane.

 

Different

Mix of creative digital outputs, direct marking, TV, Print and radio. Large agency with around 45 people which started from small group of 4 designers.

The images on the index/home page shows off their work and grabs your attention. Site looks more corporate, clean. The green really stands out on the white background and highlights their work. Site is easy to navigate, clear links, not too cluttered. Very proactive to promote design in the North East, even though they are very successful they still work with local companies.

St David’s

Great photography, like how used the same effect is used on the images as the logo. Strong design concept across the whole campaign, overall very visually striking work and very inspirational.

Drummond Central

Founded in 2004, Drummond is an agency specialising in advertising, research and planning, direct marketing, digital design and copywriting.

 Nice website, strong imagery their own logo is very prominent. Site is easy to navigate, links are clear. There is also a game on the site which might make people stay on the site longer / might come back more often. The only thing didn’t really like was that the images taken for their work was displayed on an angle so some work was bit harder to see and bit annoying.

They use a varied style and have a broad range of clients. They work with big local companies such as Nexus, the Bridges & the Sage.

Pop Cards

Colourful, simple graphics. Like how it is customizable so would appeal to wide number of people.

Jump

Website was a bit dull / plain but was easy to use. They could have used better images of their work on the front page, the index pages also had too many information boxes so was a bit distracting. Their work is clear and easy to see, large images so can see allot of detail but did use outdated effects such as using a Mac screen to display some of their web based work.

They specialise in graphic design, web, and screen. They used specialised people for each tasks / role. Overall they don’t really stand out as being different / any better than any other design agency.

Meet your neighbour  

Like how they have taken on the polish paper cutting/paper craft style and made it look clean and modern with vector style artwork. Like the bright red on the plain white backgrounds too think stands out and grabs you attention.

Solution Group

Nice use of shape and colour, takes colour scheme from the logo which ties the web design with the branding really nicely. Really good photography used though-out the site and work looks very professional. Site is easy to navigate and the information and work is easy to view and find. Only thing didn’t like so much was that when you are looking though each project it skips though the images by itself and you can’t click forward or backwards so was bit annoying if you wanted to spend more time looking at one image. From the style of writing on the site its seems more relaxed/informal but still looks professional at the same time.

Grow

Nice use of photography and vector graphics, very interesting image, like the texture used for the vector graphics too.

BLUE BRIDGE LOGO
Also done a presentation of my initial ideas for the Blue Bridge logo. I thought there would have been more people working on it but guess more change to get picked or so I thought. I didnt really spend too long on my ideas and some of other designs were really nice and well thought-out. Think it will be very hard for them to choose a design. Was also good to be presenting some work again as I want to improve how I present my ideas to others more.
